Which Discount Backsplash Tile Should You Choose?

The backsplash is one of the most noticeable parts of a kitchen. Ironically, many homeowners overlook it when designing, styling, using and cleaning their kitchens.

For some people, the backsplash is nothing but a wall decoration. If you believe otherwise, you may be among those who go the extra mile when planning their kitchens. To help you get the right material for your backsplash, you may want to consider the following discount backsplash tile options as well as some expensive ones.

Ceramic Tile

The ceramic tile is the top choice for tight-budgeted homeowners. Despite its affordability and familiarity, this material makes a kitchen look cleaner and cooler. It comes in various colors, sizes and designs; the standard 3” by 6” white subway tiles are among the popular types of ceramic tiles.

As the cheapest of all options, don’t expect the material to be as sturdy as the others. The thickness of the typical ceramic tile (around 3/8 to 1/2 inch) already speaks about its fragility. Because of this, it’s not a good flooring material for areas with high traffic. However, as a backsplash material, it may be an ideal option if you want to cut down on the possible expenses.

Glass Tile

Its name alone emits a sense of elegance. However, don’t judge the glass tile by just its name. In contrast to the ceramic tile, the glass tile that passed the standards of the authorities will only crack when strike with a hammer or any other harder object. The said material is also the best when it comes to a tile’s ability to reflect light which helps illuminate a poorly lit room.

Discount tile backsplashes

glass tile backsplash is a good addition to a kitchen located in the basement. If trees tend to prevent sunlight from entering your kitchen, you can always trim the trees, add a few lights in the room, and have a glass tile backsplash extending up to the corner near your ceiling.

The price of glass tiles can range from $3 to $40. The  discount backsplash tile may appear as affordable as some ceramic tiles. But if you want a more durable glass tile backsplash, go for the mid- to high-price ones. Aside from durability, you can also take advantage of the material’s stain- and mold-resistant attributes.

Stone

A stone backsplash is commonly seen in the homes of the wealthier people. In terms of durability, nothing can beat the stone tile. It is around 1 inch thick. It is the perfect option for heavy-duty kitchens but it is not usually used that way due to its high price. It is also relatively easy to clean. However, the installation and the unlikely repair are bound to be tedious because of the material’s heavy weight and the specialty tools needed for the said tasks.

Wood

Certainly not the most affordable, wood gives the kitchen a traditional and countryside feel. Despite this advantage, a wood backsplash may be a terrible option if you have clumsy housemates. The material may get dented and stained easily. It requires a lot of maintenance as well. You have to apply numerous chemicals to keep the wood from rotting or discoloring. Another bad side of having wood backsplash is that it may be prone to bugs and rat infestation.

Bamboo

A bamboo discount backsplash tile is less expensive than its wood counterpart but offers a similar vibe. Unlike trees, growing bamboos and processing them into tiles are not as hard, time-intensive and costly. A bamboo tile is also a more eco-friendly option. The downside with the bamboo backsplash is that it is not as sturdy and elegant as others.
