Shop Tile by Application

The fastest way to narrow down
2,000+ options is to start with where the tile is going. Each surface has its
own requirements for slip resistance, water exposure, durability and load, and
the right tile makes installation and long-term maintenance significantly
easier.

Kitchen Backsplash Tile

A kitchen backsplash takes daily
heat, steam, grease and cleaning. It needs to handle all of that without
fading, cracking or staining. Glass, ceramic and porcelain all perform well
here. Glass reflects light and wipes clean with almost no effort. Ceramic and
porcelain give you more options for texture and format. Natural stone adds
warmth and visual weight but requires sealing in a kitchen environment. Browse
our kitchen
backsplash tile collection
for the full selection filtered to
this application.

Bathroom Wall Tile

Bathroom walls deal with
humidity every day and periodic direct water contact near the tub and sink.
Non-porous materials, glazed ceramic and glazed porcelain, are the most
straightforward to maintain. Natural stone works beautifully in bathrooms but
needs to be sealed and resealed over time. For shower walls specifically, your
waterproofing system matters as much as the tile itself. Our bathroom tile
collection
covers everything from classic white subway to bold
mosaic patterns.

Shower Floor Tile

Shower floors have one
requirement above all others: adequate slip resistance when wet. Small-format
tiles, penny rounds, one-inch mosaics, hexagons, work well here because the
grout lines themselves create grip. Look for tiles with a DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient
of Friction) rating of 0.42 or higher for wet floor applications. Pebble
mosaics add a spa-like texture underfoot while providing built-in traction.
Explore our shower floor
tile collection
for options rated for this specific use.

Floor Tile

Floor tile for living areas,
kitchens, entryways and hallways needs to handle foot traffic, furniture weight
and whatever gets tracked in from outside. Porcelain is the most durable option
for high-traffic areas. It is denser than ceramic and less prone to chipping.
For lower-traffic spaces like bedrooms, ceramic and natural stone expand your
design options considerably. Large-format floor tiles give contemporary spaces
a clean, seamless look, while smaller formats and mosaics work well in
transitional spaces. See our full floor tile
collection
for the complete range.

Pool Tile

Pool tile needs to handle
constant submersion, temperature swings, UV exposure and the chemical
environment of treated pool water. Pool-rated tiles are typically vitrified
glass or porcelain with absorption rates below 0.5 percent. They come in the
deep blues, aquas and whites that work with the color of pool water. Not every
tile in our catalog is pool-rated. Our pool tile
collection
is filtered specifically to products that meet those
standards.

Shop Tile by Material

Material determines how a tile
performs, how it feels underfoot or to the touch, how much maintenance it needs
and how it interacts with light. Here is how the main materials compare across
the most common residential applications.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is made from
natural clay fired at lower temperatures than porcelain. It is slightly more
porous, which makes it better suited for wall applications and low-to-moderate
traffic floors. On the upside, ceramic is easier to cut, less expensive than
porcelain in comparable sizes and available in a huge range of colors and
finishes. It is a reliable choice for bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes and
accent applications throughout the home.

Porcelain Tile

Porcelain is fired at higher
temperatures using a denser clay body, which makes it harder, denser and far
less porous than ceramic. A water absorption rate below 0.5 percent means
porcelain can go almost anywhere, including exterior applications, pool decks
and high-traffic commercial floors, without special preparation. It is the
material contractors most frequently specify for projects where durability is
the primary requirement.

Glass Tile

Glass tile is non-porous,
stain-resistant and reflective. Those properties make it an excellent choice
for kitchen backsplashes and bathroom walls where easy cleaning and light
amplification are priorities. It comes in every finish from high-gloss to matte
frosted to iridescent, and in sizes from one-inch mosaics to four-by-twelve
subway sheets. The installation note most people miss: always use white thinset
with glass tile, because the mortar color shows through the translucent
material. Visit our glass tile
collection
for the full range of styles and finishes.

Natural Stone Tile

Marble, travertine, slate,
limestone and quartzite each bring something distinct to a space. Natural stone
has been used in architecture for thousands of years for good reason, and
nothing else replicates that combination of depth, variation and visual weight.
The practical reality is that stone requires sealing before use and periodic
resealing thereafter, especially in wet areas. For homeowners willing to do
that maintenance, the payoff in aesthetic quality is substantial.

Metal and Blend Mosaic Tile

Metal tiles and blends that
combine glass, metal and stone add a layer of material richness that pure
ceramic or porcelain cannot replicate. They are most commonly used as kitchen
backsplash accents, range hood surrounds and statement walls. Metal finishes
include brushed stainless, antique copper and bronze. These tiles are popular
with designers working on high-end residential and hospitality projects.

Shop Tile by Shape

Shape influences the visual
scale of a room, the direction your eye moves across a surface and how much the
installation itself becomes a design element versus a background.

Subway Tile

The standard subway tile, two by
four inches or three by six inches, rectangular with a slight beveled edge, is
one of the most searched tile shapes for good reason. It is versatile enough to
work in traditional, transitional and contemporary spaces depending on the
color and finish you choose. Our subway tile collection
includes ceramic, porcelain and glass options across a wide color range.

Hexagon Tile

Hexagon tiles are a perennial
favorite for bathroom floors, shower floors and accent walls. The geometric
shape creates a pattern without requiring complex installation. Small hexagons
work well on floors where the grout lines add grip. Larger hexagons work as
wall tile with a more contemporary feel. Browse the full hexagon tile collection
in ceramic, porcelain, glass and natural stone.

Penny Round Tile

Penny rounds are small circular
tiles, typically one inch in diameter, mounted on mesh sheets for easy
installation. They have been a bathroom floor staple for over a century. The
circular shape and tight grout lines create a surface with good traction, making
penny rounds a practical choice for shower floors. They are also increasingly
used on kitchen backsplashes and bathroom walls for a retro-modern look. See
the penny round
collection
for available colors and materials.

Herringbone Tile

Herringbone is a layout pattern,
two rectangular tiles arranged at 90-degree angles to each other in a V shape,
that can be achieved with standard subway tiles or purchased as pre-mounted
herringbone mosaic sheets. Either way, the result is a dynamic surface with a
sense of movement. Herringbone backsplashes are one of the most popular kitchen
design choices right now. Browse our herringbone tile
collection
for ready-to-install options.

Specialty Shapes

Beyond the standards, BELK Tile
carries arabesque,
picket,
chevron,
fish scale,
basketweave,
waterjet-cut
patterns
, and zellige-look
designs
. These specialty shapes are used by designers who want
the tile installation itself to be the statement. They work best when the color
is kept relatively neutral, letting the shape do the visual work.

Shop Tile by Color and Style

Once you know the material and
shape, color and design style are the final decisions. BELK Tile organizes its
catalog by color and by interior design aesthetic, so you can shop by the look
you are going for rather than by product spec.

By Color

The most timeless backsplash and
bathroom colors are white,
cream and beige,
and gray.
They work across virtually every cabinet color, countertop material and fixture
finish. Blue
and green
tiles read as fresh and spa-inspired in bathrooms and coastal kitchens. Black tile
makes a bold statement used sparingly as an accent or confidently as a dominant
surface in contemporary spaces. Multicolor
blends
let the tile carry visual interest without needing
complementary decor to back it up.

By Decor Style

If you are designing to a
specific aesthetic rather than a specific color, our style collections make it
easier to find tiles that fit the overall concept. Farmhouse style
leans toward handmade-look ceramics, subway tile and warm neutrals. Coastal style
favors sea glass tones, penny rounds and soft blues and greens. Contemporary
style
calls for large-format porcelain, clean geometric shapes
and monochromatic palettes. Modern style
includes more raw material expression, concrete look, dark grout and matte
finishes. Boho style
embraces pattern, color and global influences like encaustic and zellige looks.
Traditional
and rustic styles
reach for warmth, texture and materials that feel grounded in natural origins.

Buying Guide: What to Know Before You Order

How to Calculate How Much Tile You Need

Measure the width and height of
your installation area in inches, multiply them, and divide by 144 for square
footage. For kitchens with windows, outlets and appliances, measure the full
wall and then subtract the areas you will not be tiling. Always add 10 to 15
percent to your total for cuts and waste, and more if your layout involves
diagonal patterns or lots of angles. Order everything from the same production
run, since dye lots vary and even subtle color differences are visible once
installed.

Ordering Samples First

Colors and textures look
different on a screen than they do in your actual space under your specific
lighting. Before placing a full order, request samples of your top choices and
hold them in the room at different times of day. The sample that looked perfect
on your monitor might read differently next to your cabinetry, and you will
know immediately once you see it in person. This step is especially important
for natural stone, which has inherent color variation within a single product.

Understanding Tile Ratings

Floor tiles should carry a PEI
(Porcelain Enamel Institute) rating of at least 3 for residential use and 4 or
higher for commercial environments. Wet floor tiles, shower floors and pool
decks, should meet a DCOF rating of 0.42 or higher. Pool-rated tiles will
specify vitrified construction and low water absorption. Product listings on
our site include relevant ratings where applicable. If you have questions about
a specific tile's suitability for your application, reach out to our team
before ordering.

DIY vs. Professional Installation

Simple backsplash projects on a
flat surface with no cuts around outlets and standard subway tile are well
within reach for a careful DIYer who has done basic research. Shower
installations are significantly more demanding, primarily because of the waterproofing
system that needs to go in before the tile. For shower projects and anything
involving floor tile in wet areas, bringing in a professional installer is
money well spent. Contractors working on commercial or multi-unit projects
should contact us for volume pricing.

Trade and Volume Pricing

BELK Tile works with interior
designers, general contractors, tile installers and builders who need reliable
access to quality tile at pricing that makes project economics work. If you are
speccing a project or purchasing in volume, contact our team directly.
We can discuss pricing, lead times, sample availability and logistics based on
your project specifics.
