Mallorca and Myorka Ceramic Tile

If you have seen this collection called both Mallorca and Myorka, you are looking at the same tile series. Mallorca is the manufacturer's collection name, while Myorka is another name used for the collection in the U.S. tile market.

At BELK Tile, we reference Mallorca and Myorka together to make that connection clear.

What makes this collection distinctive is its softer interpretation of the handcrafted ceramic look. Mallorca combines subtle surface irregularity, tonal movement and a satin finish without the stronger reflective appearance found in some other Zellige-inspired ceramic collections.

Written by Mike Belk, Tile Expert at BELK Tile.

What Is Mallorca Tile?

Mallorca is a Spanish-made white-body ceramic wall tile designed with the character of handcrafted tile in mind.

The surface is intentionally not perfectly uniform. Slight changes in texture and gloss allow light to move differently across individual pieces, helping an installed wall look less mechanical than conventional flat ceramic tile.

Mallorca is Zellige-inspired ceramic tile rather than authentic handmade Moroccan Zellige. You get the visual character of artisan tile while working with a manufactured ceramic product offered in consistent nominal sizes.

Mallorca vs Myorka: Are They the Same Tile?

Yes. Mallorca and Myorka refer to the same ceramic tile collection.

Equipe Cerámicas manufactures the collection under the Mallorca name in Spain. Myorka is an alternate name used for the collection in parts of the U.S. tile market.

BELK Tile references both names so someone who previously purchased, sampled or specified Myorka can recognize the Mallorca collection without wondering whether it is a different product.

What Makes Mallorca Tile Different?

Mallorca is about subtle imperfection rather than dramatic texture.

The surface has enough variation to create a handcrafted appearance, but the overall effect is softer and quieter than a highly reflective artisan-look tile. Its satin surface gently responds to surrounding light rather than making strong reflection the dominant feature of the wall.

That makes Mallorca particularly useful when you want the character of Zellige-inspired tile without overwhelming the rest of the room.

Depending on the color and layout, the collection can work with Mediterranean, coastal, farmhouse, rustic, transitional, bohemian and contemporary interiors.

Mallorca Tile Sizes

BELK Tile offers Mallorca field tile in two formats:

4 x 4 inch square

2 x 8 inch subway tile

Both sizes share the same overall design direction, but they create noticeably different walls.

The 4 x 4 emphasizes repetition, individual pieces and the handcrafted character of the surface. The 2 x 8 creates stronger lines and gives you more freedom to use horizontal, vertical, stacked and other appropriate directional layouts.

Mallorca 4 x 4 Ceramic Tile

The 4 x 4 format is my choice when you want Mallorca to lean more strongly into its Zellige-inspired character.

Each nominal 4 x 4 tile is approximately 3.94 x 3.94 inches. The current Mallorca 4 x 4 format is packaged 50 pieces per box and covers approximately 5.38 square feet.

The square format creates a simple geometric foundation that allows differences in surface appearance and gloss to provide the visual interest.

It works particularly well across backsplashes and feature walls where you want something more interesting than a perfectly uniform square ceramic tile without introducing a complicated pattern.

Mallorca 2 x 8 Ceramic Subway Tile

The 2 x 8 format takes Mallorca in a more linear direction.

The nominal format is approximately 2.5 x 8 inches. The current field tile is packaged 38 pieces per box and covers approximately 5.38 square feet.

A horizontal installation creates the familiar subway-tile direction. A vertical layout changes the emphasis and can draw the eye upward, while stacked and other appropriate layouts can push the collection toward a more contemporary design.

The softer surface character keeps these layouts from feeling as precise as a perfectly flat conventional subway tile.

Mallorca Tile Colors at BELK Tile

BELK Tile offers Mallorca field tile in White, Cream, Grey, Blue, Black and Terracotta.

The palette ranges from quiet neutrals to coastal blue, dramatic black and warm earthy Terracotta. Because the surface and gloss can vary slightly, color should be evaluated across multiple pieces rather than from one individual tile.

Mallorca White

White is the most versatile option in the collection.

Instead of relying on strong color, White allows the surface character and subtle changes in reflected light to become the design. It can work with natural wood, marble-look surfaces, quartz, warmer metals, polished fixtures and a broad range of cabinetry.

I would choose White when you want a light handcrafted-looking wall without committing the room to a stronger color palette.

Mallorca Cream

Cream warms up the same basic concept.

It works especially well with warm whites, wood cabinetry, beige and cream countertops, natural-looking materials and interiors where bright white would feel too cool.

For farmhouse, relaxed traditional or warm transitional spaces, Cream may be the first Mallorca color I would sample.

Mallorca Grey

Grey provides a cooler neutral while preserving the softer character of the collection.

It can bridge white, black, wood and metal finishes without becoming as visually dominant as Blue, Black or Terracotta. The surface variation also helps prevent the gray from appearing completely flat across a larger wall.

Mallorca Blue

Blue gives Mallorca its strongest coastal direction.

The combination of blue ceramic, subtle variation and a softer satin surface can create a calmer effect than highly reflective blue glass or glossy ceramic.

That makes it particularly attractive for coastal kitchens, bathroom walls and other spaces where you want blue to establish the palette without making the surface overly reflective.

Mallorca Black

Black takes the collection in an entirely different direction.

Instead of emphasizing its light Mediterranean or coastal character, Black can create a moodier backsplash, bar wall, fireplace surround or bathroom feature.

The slight surface and gloss differences become particularly interesting with a dark color because changing light can reveal details that are less obvious when viewing one tile by itself.

Mallorca Terracotta

Terracotta brings a warm, earthy direction to Mallorca and reinforces the collection's Mediterranean character.

It works naturally with cream, warm white, wood, stone and aged or brushed metal finishes. It can also be a strong choice for kitchens and feature walls where you want warmth and color without moving into a bright or highly saturated palette.

I particularly like Terracotta when the goal is a relaxed Mediterranean, rustic, farmhouse or organic interior. The combination of earthy color, satin sheen and subtle surface variation gives the wall character without requiring a complicated pattern.

Mallorca Tile for Kitchen Backsplashes

A kitchen backsplash is one of my favorite applications for this type of ceramic tile because you get to see the surface up close.

The 4 x 4 format creates a relaxed square grid that works well when you want the tile itself to show more individual character. The 2 x 8 format gives you a familiar subway proportion with a less uniform surface.

Think about how much movement already exists in the countertop. A strongly veined stone or quartz may pair better with White, Cream or Grey, while a quieter countertop gives Blue, Black or Terracotta more room to become the focal point.

Mallorca Tile for Shower Walls

Mallorca can be used on approved interior shower-wall applications.

A shower provides a larger uninterrupted surface where the slight differences between individual pieces become more noticeable. The 4 x 4 format creates more frequent grout lines and individual squares, while the 2 x 8 creates a more directional wall.

This collection is intended as wall tile. Do not assume that because Mallorca works on a shower wall it can also be used on a shower floor.

The tile and grout are also the finished surface of the shower, not the waterproofing system. An appropriate waterproofing assembly is still required behind the installation.

Mallorca Tile for Fireplace Surrounds

The softer surface of Mallorca can work particularly well around a fireplace because it adds texture without requiring a heavily patterned tile.

White and Cream can keep the surround light and understated. Grey provides a more neutral architectural direction, Blue introduces color, Black can create a dramatic focal point, and Terracotta can bring warmth to the fireplace.

Fireplace requirements vary by fireplace type and installation location. Follow the fireplace manufacturer's requirements and confirm that the substrate, setting materials and installation are appropriate for the specific surround or feature-wall application.

Mallorca Tile for Accent Walls

Mallorca becomes especially interesting when it covers enough wall area for its subtle variation to develop.

Behind a vanity, bar, shelving feature or other architectural element, the tile can create texture without relying on printed decoration or an elaborate mosaic pattern.

Lighting matters here. Side lighting can make subtle surface changes more noticeable, while softer ambient lighting can make the same installation appear quieter.

That ability to change character with the room is part of what makes this collection appealing.

Mallorca for Mediterranean Interiors

Mallorca's Spanish origin and handcrafted-inspired surface make it a natural fit for Mediterranean interiors.

Terracotta is especially useful for this direction because its earthy warmth coordinates naturally with cream, plaster-like surfaces, wood, stone and aged metal finishes. White and Cream can create a lighter Mediterranean palette while allowing other materials in the room to provide the stronger color.

The goal does not need to be a literal Mediterranean theme. A few warm materials combined with the imperfect-looking ceramic surface can establish the character without making the room feel overly styled.

Mallorca for Coastal Interiors

Mallorca also has a natural connection to coastal design, particularly in Blue, White and Cream.

Rather than making the entire room overly themed, let the color and irregular-looking ceramic surface provide the coastal reference and pair it with simple natural materials.

Light woods, warm whites, stone textures and restrained fixtures can create a coastal room without making it feel like a beach-themed space.

Mallorca for Farmhouse and Rustic Interiors

The handcrafted look makes Mallorca a strong option for farmhouse and rustic-inspired interiors.

Cream, White and Terracotta can pair especially well with wood cabinetry, warm countertops and natural materials. The irregular-looking ceramic surface provides more character than a conventional flat ceramic subway tile.

The key is restraint. You do not need a complicated layout when the surface of the tile already contributes texture and variation.

Mallorca for Bohemian and Organic Interiors

Mallorca's softer color palette and imperfect-looking surface can also work well in relaxed bohemian and organic interiors.

Terracotta, Cream and Blue can introduce color without relying on printed patterns, while the subtle texture prevents the wall from feeling overly polished.

Pairing the tile with wood, natural textiles, warm metals and other tactile materials can reinforce this direction while keeping the room sophisticated.

Mallorca for Transitional and Contemporary Spaces

Handcrafted-look tile does not have to be traditional.

Use the 2 x 8 format in a clean stacked or vertical layout and Mallorca can move in a much more contemporary direction. The geometry feels organized while the slight surface irregularity prevents the installation from looking sterile.

This balance is also why the collection works well in transitional spaces. It can connect traditional materials and modern fixtures without belonging entirely to either style.

Mallorca vs Manacor Tile

Mallorca and Manacor share a Spanish-made, Zellige-inspired ceramic design direction, but I would not treat them as interchangeable collections.

Mallorca is the quieter of the two. Its satin surface and subtle variation create a softer handcrafted appearance.

Manacor has a more pronounced glossy character and stronger visual movement. Its elongated format is also considerably longer at 2.5 x 16 inches, compared with Mallorca's approximately 2.5 x 8 inch subway format.

If you want a softer wall with understated texture, start with Mallorca. If you want stronger reflection, more dramatic surface movement and a longer linear format, Manacor may be the better direction.

Understanding Mallorca's Surface Variation

The slight differences between Mallorca pieces are intentional.

Variations in surface and gloss can create subtle differences across the installation. Rather than trying to make every tile look identical, the goal is to distribute those differences naturally.

Open multiple boxes before installation and review the pieces together. Mixing tiles from different boxes can help prevent similar pieces from becoming concentrated in one part of the wall.

This is particularly important on larger installations where small differences become more noticeable across the complete surface.

Satin vs Glossy Ceramic Tile

Mallorca's satin character is an important part of what separates it from higher-gloss Zellige-inspired ceramic collections.

A satin surface can still respond to light, but the overall appearance is softer than the stronger reflection associated with a high-gloss finish.

That distinction is one reason Mallorca works so well in relaxed interiors. You still get enough light response to reveal the character of the surface without making reflection the dominant feature of the wall.

Choosing Grout for Mallorca Tile

Grout color determines how strongly you see the individual pieces and layout.

A grout close to the tile color creates a more continuous appearance and allows the subtle surface differences to carry more of the design. Greater contrast outlines every piece and makes the square or subway pattern considerably more prominent.

Neither approach is automatically better. Decide whether you want people to notice the tile's surface first or the geometry of the installation first, then choose the grout direction accordingly.

Use a grout appropriate for ceramic wall tile and the intended environment, particularly in showers and other wet areas.

Coordinating Mallorca Bullnose Trim

Coordinating Mallorca bullnose pieces are available in selected colors.

Bullnose can provide a finished transition where an exposed tile edge needs to be addressed, depending on the design and installation.

Plan these transitions before ordering the field tile. Knowing where the tile terminates at outside edges, niches or other architectural conditions can help determine how much trim you need and whether bullnose is the appropriate finishing solution.

Mallorca Is an Interior Wall Tile

Mallorca should be treated as a ceramic wall-tile collection.

The collection is intended for approved interior wall applications such as kitchen backsplashes, shower walls, fireplace surrounds and accent walls. It should not be assumed suitable for floors, shower floors, pools or exterior installations simply because it is ceramic.

For those projects, choose tile specifically approved for the intended application.

Order Mallorca Tile Samples Before Choosing a Color

Mallorca is a collection I strongly recommend seeing in person.

A photograph can show the general color, but it has a much harder time communicating satin sheen, slight gloss differences and subtle surface variation. This becomes particularly important with Terracotta, Blue and Black, where lighting can noticeably affect how the color reads in the room.

Look at your sample next to the actual countertop, cabinetry, fixtures and paint. Check it in natural daylight and under the artificial lighting you normally use at night.

If you are deciding between Mallorca and a higher-gloss Zellige-inspired collection, viewing the samples side by side is especially useful.

Shop Mallorca and Myorka Ceramic Tile at BELK Tile

Whether you first encountered the collection as Mallorca or Myorka, the appeal is the same: a Spanish-made ceramic wall tile that introduces handcrafted character without requiring a highly dramatic surface.

Choose the 4 x 4 format when you want a traditional square layout that emphasizes individual pieces. Choose the 2 x 8 format when you want a subway proportion with more directional possibilities.

White, Cream and Grey keep the palette neutral. Blue introduces a relaxed coastal direction, Black creates stronger contrast, and Terracotta brings a warm, earthy Mediterranean influence to the collection.

Whichever combination you choose, let the subtle differences between the tiles remain visible. Mallorca works because the finished wall does not look perfectly uniform.
